The RM-Z250 continues to evolve for 2016, delivering a higher level of performance with suspension and frame advancements to improve its already class-leading handling, the addition of Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC), and extensive engine upgrades, bringing over 80 redesigned internal engine parts to the 2016 RM-Z250.

KYB Suspension - The 2016 RM-Z250’s suspension has been completely redesigned for improved handling, reduced weight and increased overall performance. The new PSF2 air fork eliminates the coil spring, the heaviest part of a spring fork, resulting in a 1kg weight savings, and adjusting the suspension is now as simple as adding or subtracting air.

Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) - Designed for ease of use and maximum control of power to the ground, S-HAC lets you match the engine’s power delivery to the starting conditions. A new, three-stage version of S-HAC fitted to the 2016 RM-Z250 adjusts the ignition map for the initial moment of launch, then re-adjusts timing for the time the motorcycle moves through the starting gate area, then another adjustment is applied during the longer primary acceleration period.

Chassis Features

  • The 2016 RM-Z250’s suspension has been completely redesigned for improved handling, reduced weight and increased overall performance.
  • Race-inspired disc rotors and Excel aluminum rims are standard equipment.
  • Renthal aluminum Fatbar is standard equipment. It has more strength and less vibration than straight aluminum handlebars.
  • To maintain the RM-Z's renowned handling performance, each bike's rear suspension features a an all-new rear shock. Fully-tunable rear shock features an easily accessed integral adjuster system to set high- and low-speed rebound damping and high- and low-speed compression damping force
  • The new PSF2 air fork eliminates the coil spring, the heaviest part of a spring fork, resulting in a 1kg weight savings. Adjusting the suspension is now as simple as adding or subtracting air. Just apply one common air pressure setting to each fork leg. No need for complicated and costly spring changes. Additionally, rebound damping is now 2-way adjustable with high- and low-speed setting screws.

Overall frame weight lowered by 2.5%. New rib structure, redesigned connection parts, and lengthened steering head increase frame rigidity.
  • The gripper seat has projecting cross-shaped patterns on its top surface to provide additional adhesion and rider confidence.

Engine Features

  • The 249cc, 4-stroke, fuel-injected, DOHC engine, is a compact and lightweight design that powers the RM-Z250's championship-winning performance. To increase performance, reduce weight and improve ease of maintenance, over 80 internal engine parts have been redesigned for 2016
  • The RM-Z250’s fuel-injection system delivers precise throttle response and consistent performance. By plugging in either of two fuel-setting couplers (in addition to stock), riders can opt for a richer or leaner fuel setting to make the most of any riding conditions.
  • New piston, including pin and ring, increase durability and improve power delivery through improved sealing
  • Reduced Crank inertia and increased Magneto inertia reduce engine braking force
  • Redesigned camshafts and valves increase overall power and contribute to smoother power delivery
  • Redesigned decompression system for more precise operation and easier starting
  • Redesigned kick drive gear, breather gear, kick idle gear also contribute greatly to the easier engine starting
  • Redesigned Cam Chain tensioner reduces friction and increases durability, while a new adjuster has a greater range of tension to reduce drag
  • Redesigned Crankcase improves oil lubrication and circulation, and reduces engine braking force
  • Redesigned clutch cover features new oil level gauge window for easier maintenance
  • Redesigned header pipe and muffler enhance low- to mid-range power with lower sound output (AMA-compliant)
  • The advanced battery-less fuel-injection (FI) system features a 44mm throttle body with progressive throttle linkage and a 16-bit computer. The fuel injection system uses a unique capacitor-assisted starting system and is powered by a durable, lightweight magneto-generator after starting.
  • The aluminum cylinder with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating is built for durability, light weight and efficient heat transfer.
  • A new ECM with higher processing performance and a new high power ignition coil optimize combustion efficiency for increased roll-on performance.
  • The RM-Z250's cooling efficiency is increased thanks to redesigned radiator fins and revised water hose routing, making the bike's high performance power output more stable, even in the most demanding conditions. RM-Z250's also features a new by-pass hose routing to simplify occasional radiator maintenance.
  • FI indicator light (optional part: 36380-28H00) has hour meter function, indicates how many hours the engine has been running.

New Features

  • Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC) is a selectable launch mode system derived straight from our factory race bikes. S-HAC helps the riders takeoff from the starting gate for an early lead. S-HAC was introduced in 2014 RM-Z450, and now a refined version is on the RM-Z250. There are three modes riders can choose for the best option per their skill level and starting conditions.
  • A-Mode: For hard surfaces or slippery conditions at the starting gate. In this mode, S-HAC alters ignition timing at the moment of launch and the ride over the gate to reduce wheel slip to deliver a smooth take off. It also advances ignition timing during this sequence for stronger acceleration. The ignition will return to normal operation 6 seconds after the start, or when you shift into fourth gear; or when the throttle is closed (whichever happens first).
  • To select A-Mode, hold down the S-HAC button on the left handlebar for more than 0.7 second, then the indicator light will start to slowly flash. Then release the button, the S-HAC is now set in A-Mode
  • B-Mode: When conditions at the starting gate have better traction, and a more aggressive launch is desired. S-HAC will advance the ignition timing to allow increased throttle response and stronger acceleration off the line. The ignition timing alternation is in a similar sequence as Mode A, but with increased overall timing. The ignition will return to normal operation 6 seconds after the start, or when you shift into fourth gear; or when the throttle is closed (whichever happens first).
  • To select B-Mode, hold down the S-HAC button on the left handlebar for more than 1.8 seconds, then the indicator light will start to quickly flash. Then release the button, the S-HAC is now set in B-Mode
  • Base Mode: Standard power launch, no action required on the S-HAC switch.
  • The S-HAC light also provides fuel injection self-diagnostic indication plus engine run time codes.
  • New design KYB PSF2 Pneumatic Spring front fork uses air chambers in place of steel springs for light weight, easy adjustability, improved damper performance and smooth action from low friction. Riders can adjust both air forks with one balanced air pressure setting from a hand-pump. Compression damping is adjustable while rebound damping force is both high- and low-speed adjustable.
  • New design KYB rear shock absorber is connected link style to the swingarm via re-shaped cushion rods and spacers. The nitrogen-charged, piggyback style shock features a new top-mounted integral adjuster system for easy adjustment of the high- and low-speed rebound, and high- and low-speed compression damping force adjusters. Spring preload can be precisely tuned via a threaded collar on the main shock body.
  • The RM-Z250s engine has been refined so mid-range power and torque is enhanced while maximum power is maintained. Power delivery is smoother and linear for easier control.
  • New piston, piston pin & piston ring improve durability and ring-sealing.
  • Reduced crankshaft inertia, increased magneto inertia to reduce engine braking losses.
  • Revised EFI throttle valve angle also reduces engine braking losses.
  • Redesigned camshafts and intake valves to widen engine performance.
  • Redesigned decompression system for improved starting.
  • Redesigned kick drive gear, breather gear & kick idle gear also aids starting.
  • Redesigned cam chain tensioner and adjuster to reduce valve train friction.
  • Redesigned crankcase for increased lubrication.
  • New clutch cover with oil level window.
  • New, longer head pipe for enhanced low-to-mid range power.
  • Revised muffler meets AMA sound standards.
  • The hot-start lever system is not required and is eliminated.
  • Redesigned main frame is reduced in weight 2.5% while chassis rigidity has been optimized for improved cornering performance.
  • New light weight front brake caliper reduces mass while still providing outstanding stopping force.
  • New Dunlop MX52 series tires are used featuring CTCS (Carcass Tension Control System) technology for superb rigidity and high level of grip.

  • The transmission design achieves a smooth yet solid shift feel. From the method of fastening the sprocket to the drive shaft, to the design of the gears themselves, this transmission attains a quick shift feel.
